I am immensely proud of The National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company. It was created 25 years ago to headline our annual International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival. It has gone from strength to strength receiving outstanding reviews from the national press including five stars awarded by the Daily Mail for last year’s fantastic Princess Ida.
Our Silver Jubilee 2018 season offers our most ambitious programme to date with six brand-new productions including all-time favourite “The Pirates of Penzance” along with the first professional production of “Haddon Hall” to be performed since 1892. There really is “something for everyone”. Iolanthe, Ruddigore, The Sorcerer and Trial by Jury complete this year’s programme.
The Opera Company is completely self-sufficient and does not receive a penny of public funding. I don’t think there are many other opera companies of a similar stature who can say that today!
All our performances are accompanied by the National Festival Orchestra who have been with us since our very first show back in 1994. Today the company continues to headline the festival but its quality has been recognised by many other major UK theatres and it will tour many of them this autumn.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our venues this year. You can be sure of a fun-filled evening with simply the very best entertainment.
